Myrtle Beach Is the Perfect Place to Celebrate America’s Birthday

Guests at Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort are close to all the action at the many celebrations taking place on the Grand Strand. The nearby Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and The Market Common are hosting events by night and day, respectively, as well as other events at Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing, the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk and Surfside Beach Pier. Activities include a road race, a baseball game, live music and entertainment, and a boat parade. Here are a few highlights:

* The Market Common: Start your Fourth of July with a little exercise and family fun at the Independence Day 5K and 8K at Valor Park. This patriotic-themed race will be held on the site of the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, which is filled with tributes to the U.S. Armed Forces, followed by a post-race party at Valor Park with music, food, games and kids’ activities.

* Myrtle Beach Boardwalk: Myrtle Beach’s downtown district comes alive with music, entertainment and fireworks on the Fourth of July. The main stage at Plyler Park gets things started with concerts and entertainers beginning at 7 p.m., and then all eyes turn to the skies above the Second Avenue Pier for the launching of fireworks over the ocean at 10 p.m. The pyrotechnics display can be seen from points all along this 1.2-mile oceanfront walkway, and visitors can enjoy all the nearby attractions, like Family Kingdom Amusement Park and the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel.

* Myrtle Beach Pelicans: Located next door to Broadway at the Beach, Pelicans Ballpark throws a star-spangled baseball bash starting at 7:05 p.m., featuring a game between the minor-league Myrtle Beach Pelicans and the Buies Creek Astros. Enjoy a hot dog and a cold beer while watching America’s pastime, then sit back and watch the post-game fireworks from a front-row seat. Pyrotechnics usually start around 9:30 or 10 p.m., depending on the length of the game.

* Murrells Inlet Independence Day Boat Parade: This aquatic parade gives new meaning to the word “floats,” since the patriotic procession takes place on the water. Visitors line the shore of Murrells Inlet to see the brightly decorated boats sail past, then they head to the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk for some great seafood and a 10 p.m. fireworks show over the inlet.

* Broadway at the Beach: Myrtle Beach’s most popular multi-purpose complex hosts a special edition of its Summer Nights at Broadway series on the Fourth of July, including a free concert, fire dancers, stilt-walkers and more. The main event is the fireworks show over Lake Broadway at 10 p.m. Enjoy an evening of family-friendly attractions, shopping and dining before the show.

* Surfside Beach Pier: Hurricane Matthew did a number on the Surfside Beach Pier, so the fireworks show has been cancelled at this year’s annual Fourth of July beach party. But there will be live music, a parade and other festivities throughout the day in Surfside Beach for those who want to experience a small-town seaside shindig.

* Barefoot Landing: This North Myrtle Beach hot spot is home to a number of top attractions, shopping and dining, and there’s even more in store for the Fourth of July. Visitors can take part in a foot parade around the boardwalk at sunset, followed by a fireworks show over Barefoot Lake at 9:30 p.m.

There’s no better place to celebrate the Fourth of July than Myrtle Beach, and no better place to stay and play than Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort. Make your vacation plans today to RSVP for your Independence Day party plans.
