You don’t need 20/20 vision to see yourself ringing in the year 2020 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, one of the hottest spots on the East Coast to spend a memorable New Year’s Eve.

Myrtle Beach comes to life in the middle of the offseason with a variety of venues celebrating the changing of the calendar, including festivities before and beyond the midnight hour.

With Dec. 31 falling on a Tuesday, visitors can take advantage of the long weekend with a holiday getaway at Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort. Whether you’re coming with family, friends or on a group retreat, it’s the perfect place for your party to ring in the New Year. Here are a few of our guests’ favorite events for celebrating New Year’s Eve in Myrtle Beach:

Barefoot Landing:

This North Myrtle Beach shopping, dining and entertainment complex goes all out for New Year’s, shooting off fireworks at 7 p.m. and hosting parties at various restaurants and bars. The big one is at the House of Blues, which features a special dinner and welcomes country music artist Corey Smith to the main stage.

Broadway at the Beach:

The most popular party spot in Myrtle Beach holds court on New Year’s Eve as well, with the night clubs in The District holding special events. The fun starts with fireworks at 8 p.m., followed by all-night shindigs at Hard Rock Cafe, Crocodile Rocks, Club Oz and more.

Brookgreen Gardens:

Due to the high demand for tickets to its Nights of a Thousand Candles event, Brookgreen Gardens added the Light Up the New Year program to give visitors the rare chance to see the gardens aglow. Held Dec. 27, 28 and 31, Light Up the New Year features the massive botanical sculpture garden in all its glory with seasonal music as a backdrop. (Hint: If you’re looking for a romantic spot to spend New Year’s Eve, this is it).

Fun Warehouse:

The retro-cool sport of roller skating is a great way for families to spend New Year’s Eve together. Fun Warehouse is hosting an all-night skate from 7 p.m. Dec. 31 to 7 a.m. Jan. 1. Stay for the party or drop off the older kids for a supervised sleepover while the grownups go out to play. The Fun Warehouse also has laser tag, an arcade, grill and more.

The Market Common:

Enjoy the spirit of New York’s Times Square celebration without going all the way to the Big Apple. In fact, this Southern Times Square party is family friendly and located about 1 mile from Compass Cove. Live music, food, vendors and the ceremonial midnight ball drop make this free festival a favorite for locals and visitors.

Myrtle Beach Convention Center:

The 38th Annual Beach ball Classic is a holiday tradition in Myrtle Beach. Attracting some of the top high school basketball teams and recruits in the country, this tournament is a weeklong hoopsapalooza, culminating with the championship games and a post-tourney New Year’s Eve party on the final day.

Theaters:

New Year’s Eve is showtime for several Myrtle Beach area theaters, including special holiday shows at the Alabama Theatre and The Carolina Opry. Legends in Concert presents a special New Year’s Eve party with a variety show of tribute artists, and Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament rings in the year 1500 with a dinner show, dance party, and champagne toast and ball drop at midnight.

There’s more fun than you can squeeze into a full year in Myrtle Beach on New Year’s Eve, but it’s fun to try. Start your 2020 off right with a vacation escape to Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort.
