Fun Run: The Beer and Burrito 5K and Other Awesome Races

You’d think beer, burritos, and running would present a complication or two when combined.

That’s not the case in the Beer and Burrito 5K. Head to Myrtle Beach on Tuesday, Aug. 16 to see how. The fun starts at 5 p.m. at Tidal Creek Brewhouse, and you can register now.

Wear festive attire. You’ll get a tri-blend participant shirt for running. Check out the race website for details.

Fun Facts About Running

When you put yourself on the starting line, you’re joining a community of athletes that does good things. Usually. Except for the 1904 Olympics.

  1. That’s impressive

Ethiopian distance runner Kenenisa Bekele ran a 5K in 12 minutes, 37.35 seconds, in 2004. That’s a pace of 4:03 per mile!

  1. That’s not so impressive

In the third Olympic games, Frederick Lorz won the marathon — but rode most of the race in a car! In his defense, conditions were awful in St. Louis that year and most competitors dropped out. Lorz did too, but the car he rode in broke down, so he walked the rest of the way to the stadium. Fans cheered him as the winner, and he didn’t object! At least, not right away.

  1. Races are often for a good cause

Charities and non-profits sponsor 5Ks as fundraisers. So as you set a fitness goal to train for a race, you’re helping others, too.
