One of Myrtle Beach’s oldest neighborhoods is a fitting home to its latest concept in dining and drinking at the new 44 & King: A Southern Pub.

Located in the Old Pine Lakes section of town at the corner of 44th Avenue North and Kings Highway, 44 & King brings a unique taste to the table and bar. Blending the traditional dishes of the South with modern culinary principles, 44 & King delivers a distinct flavor in a one of a kind atmosphere.

Scheduled to open in May, 44 & King promises something different for hungry and thirsty locals and tourists alike with a diverse menu and bar lineup. To complete the experience, 44 and King features a cozy environment to enjoy its modern comfort food and broad array of beers, wines and beverages.

Guests at Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort can get the sense of the special old-meets-new atmosphere upon arrival to the recently constructed building, which is surrounded by sprawling live oak trees and lush landscaping. A covered patio deck and adjoining lawn area with corn hole boards and a bocce court also plays host to live music.

The interior matches the dining theme of upscale Southern, including overlapping wood-strip walls and large windows to bring the outdoors indoors. A nice mix of booths, tables and bar stools – 150 seats in all – give patrons a selection of seating options to soak up the food, drink and atmosphere.

The food menu is classic comfort foods with a modern twist, incorporating fresh local ingredients that were grown and harvested on the Grand Strand. Regional favorites such as the Corn Fried Chicken Bog on a Stick and the King of Beers Peel and Eat Shrimp, cater to South Carolinian taste buds. Other “Pub Grub” selections the Chef’s Charcuterie Cheese Board, Chicken and Waffle Sliders Roasted Vegetable Flatbread, and Oysters on the Half Shell.

44 & King also offers lighter fare, including six salad combinations and three soups served daily. Sandwiches such as the Tomato Fritter BLT, the Shrimp ‘N Oyster Po Boy and the Beer Braised & Wood-Grilled Bratwurst, and others like The King Burger and Build Your Own Burger, are both hearty and healthy.

Taking a page from the traditional “meat-and-three” specials available at country cooking cafes, 44 & King pays tribute with its “Protein Plus Two” combo. Patrons can select from the Stuffed Bone-in Chicken Breast, Pot Roast, Pork Shoulder Braised Over Rice, Fish & Grits and the 44 & King Porterhouse, paired with a long list of vegetable options. Save room for dessert and enjoy the Espresso Chocolate Layer Cake, Coconut Mandarin Cake.

On the liquid front, 44 & King features a long list of craft beers, domestic and imported wines, and a creative cocktail menu. The bar offers 16 beers on tap, as well as a diverse selection of bottled beers, as well as an eight-tap wine bar that serves a wide variety of wines from the barrel instead of the bottle. Non-alcoholic choices include Southern Sweet Tea, Lemonade, and Coffee Blends.
