Longtime Guest Brings Family, Friends to Compass Cove

Longtime Guest Brings Family, Friends to Compass Cove

Susan Neal is a bit of an expert when it comes to her knowledge of Myrtle Beach hotels, so when she says Compass Cove Resort her favorite place to stay, she's really saying something.

“I've been coming to Myrtle Beach since I was a kid and now I'm 63, so what does that tell you?” she joked. “I come two or three times a year and I've stayed at Compass Cove for the past seven years. I've stayed at a lot of different places but it's my favorite.”

Through the years, Neal has visited the Grand Strand with family, friends and different groups, from a reunion of high school classmates who make an annual trip in the fall to a growing list of grandchildren who come ever chance they get. Regardless of the age of the group she is traveling with, Compass Cove is always a hit with her vacation party.

“Through all the times we've stayed at Compass Cove I've not once had a bad experience or a problem with a room or anything,” Neal recalled. “The grandkids love the water park and all the fun things to do and the older ones love being able to relax by the pool and watch the little ones play. It's just the perfect place for the price. You can't beat it.”

Neal almost literally stumbled across Compass Cove while she was bargain shopping for an affordable oceanfront place to stay and play in downtown Myrtle Beach. The resort's close proximity to the beach, on-site amenities and surrounding attractions, dining and shopping make it perfectly suited for her traveling crew.

“There's so much to do at Compass Cove that there's really no need to go out and spend a lot of extra money,” she recalled. “I love having a kitchen so I can go grocery shopping and we save money by eating meals in the room, and the breakfast buffet is excellent; one of my grandsons likes it the best because he loves to eat bacon.”

During her “grandbaby trips,” there are plenty of amenities to keep them kids entertained on the premises, including pools, water slides and an aquatic playground. “There's basically a water park on the property and the beach is right out back,” Susan said. “The kids are having such a good time they don't want to go anywhere else.”

Her former high school classmates have slightly different tastes, although the bacon has universal appeal. The older set may care more about visiting surrounding attractions, shopping, dining and nightlife, but they also choose to stay at Compass Cove. Fortunately for the growing group, there’s lots to see and do just blocks away.

“Some people like to go out and do their own thing, but most of us stay at the resort and relax in the hot tubs and the lazy river,” Neal said of Compass Cove. “We come in the fall so the rates are low and it's not crowded so we sort of have the place to ourselves.”

Whether it’s a family outing or a gathering of old friends, Compass Cove is the perfect place to stay and play in Myrtle Beach.
