Ever wish you were still at the beach when you get home from the beach?
It happens. We long for the sun, and the fun. We pine for calabash shrimp and box seats at a Myrtle Beach Pelicans baseball game. The suntans fade, the sand washes out of our shoes. And we keep thinking about going back to the Grand Strand.
You can recreate one part of your Myrtle Beach adventure: The Voodoo Bucket.
It’s a symphony of rum and tropical tastes. One of the most refreshing cocktails in Myrtle Beach leaves quite an impression. And the bucket! You must include the bucket. For authenticity. Cheers! We’ll show you how.
What’s Voodoo Bucket’s Origin?
You’ve heard of Voodoo Juice. Good stuff. A Voodoo Bucket is an elevated version of it. It’s believed to have originated 20 years ago in a tavern in Brunswick, Maine. The pub’s owner, Tom LaCassee, and his manager Jimmy Stack came up with the signature drink. The Swick, the Voodoo Bucket’s birthplace, serves 10,000 buckets every summer.
How to Make a Voodoo Bucket at Home:
If rum had an all-star game, it would happen in this bucket.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- 3 ounces cranberry juice
- 3 ounces pineapple juice
- 1 ounce banana rum
- 1 ounce citrus rum
- 1 ounce coconut rum
- 1 ounce dark rum
- 1 ounce pineapple rum
- A plastic bucket and lots of straws
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Fill the bucket with ice
- Pour in all rum except for the dark rum
- Add cranberry and pineapple juices, and dark rum
- Serve and enjoy!
To prepare a big bucket for two or more, increase each ingredient proportionately. Be sure to have plenty of straws to go around!
Where to Get a Voodoo Bucket in Myrtle Beach:
There are conflicting reports of the Voodoo Bucket’s origin. There’s no arguing that its ideal iteration happens on the Grand Strand! Brittain Resorts tiki bars are famous for mixing up this deliciousness for guests. It’s become the signature drink for Brittain properties in Myrtle Beach. Although, for the best views, we suggest grabbing yourself a Voodoo Bucket at The Crow’s Nest, located at Compass Cove Resort!
