Enjoy Brazilian Style All-You-Can-Meat Dinner at Rioz Steakhouse in Myrtle Beach
The Charleston-based TBonz restaurant group opened Rioz in 2006. It’s inspired by the tradition of Brazilian Gauchos, cowboys who roamed the pastures in Southern Brazil in the 19th Century. Traditionally, the Gauchos would host “churassco” barbeques, serving a spread of the fruits and vegetables they’d farmed alongside meats that they’d grilled in wood-fired pits.
The restaurant is located just a 10-minute drive north of Bayview Resort near Broadway at the Beach. From the resort, head North on Ocean Boulevard, or cut over to North King’s Highway and travel north until you hit 29th Avenue. Turn left 29th Avenue, and just over a mile later turn right onto Hollywood Drive, and you’ll see Rioz’ large stonework facade. The restaurant is casual, with a large, open dining room decorated in dark woods and marble.
Rioz works a little bit differently than other all-you-can-eat restaurants. You start your meal with unlimited access to a salad buffet that includes fresh seafood, fresh fruits and vegetables, cheeses, and even sushi—though you can also make your entire meal from the salad buffet if you’d like.
Once you’re ready to begin enjoying your churassco-style meats, you flip a token on your table to signal the gauchos. Gauchos cycling through the dining room will then stop by your table with an array of side dishes such as cheese bread, fried bananas, and polenta, as well as a parade of skewered and grilled meats for you to choose from. When you’re full, you simply flip your token over again. Rioz’ grilled meats include several beef selections including sirloin cuts and filet mignon, and items like pernil de cordeiro, or leg of lamb and peito de frango com bacon, or bacon-wrapped chicken breast.
Upcoming Specials at Rioz:
• Rioz will be celebrating Carnaval 2013 with all dinner buffets specially priced at $21.95. “We’ll also have staff in headdresses and feathers, and Brazilian drummers,” said Rioz bartender Stephanie Spivey, “It’ll be really cool.” Reservations are being accepted now for this event.
• Rioz has extended its special 50 percent off Sunday dinner buffets through February 24. Dinner seatings start at noon. Reservations will not be taken for these popular Sunday dinners, so be prepared for a wait.
