Celebrate Oktoberfest at Market Common in Myrtle Beach

Celebrate Oktoberfest at Market Common in Myrtle Beach

In Germany, small towns and villages gather together to celebrate their heritage at Oktoberfest. Myrtle Beach brings the same neighborly spirit to the Bavarian holiday at the Market Common, an urban-style shopping and dining district that hosts a local Oktoberfest event in scenic Valor Park.

Held Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3-4, Market Common's Oktoberfest is a lower-key version of the more boisterous celebration on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. Yes, both festivals cover the basics - beer, German food, beer, German music, beer and, of course, German beer.

Oh, and did we mention that beer will be available? More than 20 craft breweries, in fact, along with all the popular domestic and imports. Many microbreweries will be rolling out their special autumn brews for Oktoberfest and visitors can purchase special tasting steins to sample them all.

Vendors serving bratwursts, sausages, Wiener schnitzel and all the traditional German favorites will be on hand Saturday, as well as some serving American classics for those with particular taste buds. Live German music, including polka and oompah bands, will take the main stage.

Market Common's Oktoberfest also has several special events designed specifically for the children. A pumpkin patch area will be set up so kids can carve their own pumpkins, and special fall games, inflatable playgrounds, face-painting and more are scheduled throughout the weekend. While you’re there, be sure to take a stroll through the Market Common shopping district and check out some of the other autumn themed displays.

Market Common's Oktoberfest gets under way at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, and runs through 9 p.m. The main event is set for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.myrtlebeachbeerfest.com.
